Long
ago there was a man who left his home and went to live with his in-laws due to
home differences and other misunderstanding of land disputes.  In his in-laws’
place this man worked very hard and became rich with a lot of properties.  He
was a good man and generous to his in-laws and the entire villagers.  He
assisted the villagers who had problems and also invited all to his house
whenever he had a ceremony which they enjoyed together.  The people of the
village seemed to love him as they were praising him for his generous love to
all who needed his help.

    One
day together with his wife he thought his in-laws and the entire villagers loved
him because of his generosity.  The wife tried to disagree with him for she
wanted to hide the truth from her families and relatives.  The man refuted his
wife’s pretence of hiding the truth which he had observed through various
instances.  His riches made through hard work troubled his in-laws and all the
villagers since a majority of them were lazy and never worked hard.

   
Together with his wife the man made a plan to prove to his wife what he had
observed and to convince his wife in order to leave the place and go back to his
original home. The man pretended to be sick and few people bothered to see him. 
A few days later the man killed a mongoose and wrapped its rotten body in a
blanket and placed it under his bed.  The smell of the rotten mongoose was
terribly stinking.  He instructed his wife to scream in pretence that her
husband has died in bed.  The in-laws and the villagers assembled in the home to
inquire what had happened.  After hearing that the man had died and his body was
lying in the bed, no body was ready to go near the bed to confirm the death. 
His horrible and offensive smell scared all the in-laws and the villagers.  They
dared not to step even at the door of the house.

   
When the message
reached his brothers and sisters, they quickly came with love and concern
straight to the bed regardless of the offensive smell.  They found that their
brother was not there, but it was the rotten mongoose wrapped in a blanket under
his bed.  It was at that moment the man came out of hiding and welcomed his
brothers and sisters.  After that he made a big ceremony by slaughtering both
cows and goats for all his blood relatives who were not scared by the smell.
