Just a month ago Father Art Wille was telling me a
story about Julius Nyerere that should inspire all of us in our ordinary daily
interactions with people. Art related that if it hadn’t been for a Chief
Makongoro, Julius could have ended up not very different than many other
Wazanaki people in Tanzania. Apparently this chief interceded with mzee Nyerere
to allow his young son to attend school after playing "bao" (an African board
game of logic) with the boy turned out more challenging than the Chief expected.
His insistence eventually led to Julius at the age of 12 being sent to Standard
One. This little intervention led to a total change in the life of Julius
Nyerere, possibly to the life of Tanzania and Africa as a whole. As we go about
our daily interaction with people, keep in mind that the littlest thing you do
for someone may in fact have tremendous consequences in the future.
