     He knows everyone

     He is generous

     He helps everyone

     He is successful

In Africa

a successful person

is not necessarily measured

in terms of economic wealth

Success is centered

on the life of the community

Material goods

are to be shared with others

Selfishness

belongs to the witches

                        sorcerers

                        anti-people

     “Please come on Sunday

      and have lunch with us,”

      he invited

Sunday

     Twenty-odd people

     flooded his small house

     and laughed and talked

     and ate heartily

He is a loved man

known by all

     That Sunday  –

     like every other Sunday  –   

    his house was filled

     to overflowing
