============================================================

     Listen to the story of a friend in Nairobi, Kenya by
the name of Muigai. He is 19-years-old, the middle child of a family of five.
Last week his Mother Susan died of AIDS after a long illness. Muigai was the
only one in the room with her. Of all of Susan’s children Muigai is surely the
most caring. As his Mother got weaker Muigai was the one who washed her clothes,
cleaned her room, kept her company when she wanted to talk or just stayed close
when Susan didn’t feel like talking. When Susan was admitted to the hospital for
the treatment of TB, Muigai was the one to go every afternoon for a one-hour
visit – bringing her something soft to eat (mouth sores of AIDS patients present
a very real problem) which he had prepared. I often find myself congratulating
Muigai on being an outstanding son, a compassionate human being and a faithful
Christian. All Mothers and sons should have it so good.
