============================================================

Just the other day, a Muslim friend — at this juncture in my life, it seems so
silly to label people this or that — and I were standing outside a movie
theater here in Cairo, Egypt waiting for it to open so we could see a film.
Smoking a cigarette and leaning against the trunk of a dusty car, I turned
around and wrote in Arabic with my finger on the trunk of the car, "Allahu Akbar"
— “God is Great.”  My Muslim friend said to me with great concern, “Ray, what
if this car belongs to a Christian?”  Whereupon he took his finger and wrote
near where I had written in the dust, "Allah Mahaba" — "God is Love.”  "There,”
he said, "Now it’s complete."  For me, this says it all regarding my
relationship as a Christian to Islam and believing Muslims.
