I traveled with Father Bill Vos to Nimule in southern Sudan to visit one of our
lay missioners Doctor Susan Nagele.  The following morning Susan took us to the
office of the SPLA (Sudan Peoples Liberation Army) to inform them of the purpose
of our visit and to show that we had the proper papers to visit southern Sudan.
The officer that we talked to was very nice.  He was using crutches as he had
lost a leg probably due to a land mine accident, a result of the conflict in
Sudan.  He informed us that he was very pleased with Dr. Susan’s work and the
other missioners in the area. He also stated that he had heard that some
visitors had arrived and that one was a "Millionaire."

    It wasn’t until
later that we realized that when we were being introduced someone heard
"Millionaire" instead of "Maryknoll."  We all got a laugh out of being called
millionaires.  The following day we signed the guest book in the school office. 
As the head teacher explained that they had very few educational materials for
the school, I wondered if the rumor of a visiting "Millionaire" had reached
them as well.
