The 2005 African Proverbs Calendar online

Dear Subscriber to the “African Proverbs, Sayings, and Stories Email Discussion List,” Greetings from Dar es Salaam, Tanzania. I am happy to inform you that the African Proverbs Calendar 2005 is online on our African Proverbs, Sayings and Stories Website: African Proverbs, Sayings and Stories
file:///root/www.afriprov.org

Go to:

African Proverbs Calendar 2005

under Resources on the left hand side of the “Front Page” (“Home Page”).

The URL for January, 2005 is:

African Proverbs Calendar 2005
http://www.afriprov.org/cal05/index.htm

Starting in January, 2005 the calendar includes a selection of 12 African Proverbs from 14 different African countries: Burundi, Democratic Republic of the Congo (DRC), Egypt, Ethiopia, Ghana, Kenya, Malawi, Mozambique, Nigeria, Rwanda, Somalia, Sudan, Tanzania, and Uganda. NOTE: This is a totally different selection of proverbs than used in the African Proverbs Calendar 2004. The full explanation of the proverb including the Biblical parallels can be accessed by clicking on EXPLANATION. A map of the country of that particular proverb can be accessed by clicking on the name of the country on the EXPLANATION page. There is a theme for each month such as “Patience” (for February, 2005) that corresponds to the proverb of that month. There are colorful photographs that correspond to the proverb of that month. Enjoy!

You can print out the calendar and use it as a Wall Calendar or as a Desk Calendar. For one creative online use of the calendar for each month in 2005 go to:

Our African Proverbs Calendar 2005 has taken months to design and produce. Special thanks go to Zonda Hollaway, Nicholas Adongo, and Joseph Kariuki. Your comments, critique, and further suggestions are welcome. We are particularly interested in how you reproduce, distribute, and use this African calendar with Africa-related groups, schools, religious groups, community organizations, educational campaigns, other websites, etc.

We plan to choose 12 new African proverbs for the 2006 African Proverbs Calendar. We depend on interested people to continue to send in new African Proverbs (especially from new African countries) in the three paragraph format. See the “African Proverb of the Month” on our website for examples.

You can also find online our African Proverbs Calendars starting from 2002 under Resources on the left hand side of the “Front Page” (“Home Page”).
