On Wednesday, 25 April, 2007 after arriving at
Entebbe International Airport in Uganda it took me a while to meet up with
Vincent, the driver from the Uganda Catholic Secretariat. He was looking for an
African priest dressed in a black shirt and collar. I was a white priest wearing
a sport shirt. This reminded me of an experience in the AMECEA Office in
Nairobi, Kenya in the 1970s. We received a telephone call from a priest in Rome
who wanted to visit our AMECEA Social Communications Office in Nairobi. Joe
Mukwaya explained that he, "Father Mukwaya," was the new Social Communications
Secretary. Due to the bad connection and static the visitor heard "Maguire."
Later when the visitor arrived at the AMECEA Office he asked to see "the Irish
priest Father Maguire." Out walked the African priest Joe Mukwaya.
