One week the St. Ann Small Christian Community (SCC)
members in Dandora Parish Nairobi, Kenya reflected on the "Visitation" in the
light of important African values such as visiting, hospitality and sharing
together. The Scripture passage chosen was Luke 1: 39-56 (the "Visitation" and
the "Magnificat"). Most of the shared gospel reflections focused on the values
of personal relationships and community in the story of Mary’s visit to
Elizabeth. The members of St. Ann SCC mentioned Elizabeth’s hospitality in
welcoming Mary; Mary helping Elizabeth around the house especially because she
was six months pregnant; and the two women helping one another and sharing their
lives with one another. One reflection related to the Magnificat itself: Mary’s
joy and happiness in being chosen to give birth to Jesus the Savior.
