============================================================
There’s something beautiful about the way women in Egypt carry things balanced
on their
heads. But when I saw Fawzia returning from the marketplace with a stack of
pita bread balanced on her head, it was wondrous. Fawzia suffers from Hansen’s
disease (leprosy). Recently she had both legs amputated below the knee. Today
she walks with two prostheses, fitted with (I’m proud to say) shoes I made. Her
steps are hesitant, but no one in Cairo carries herself with such grace.
