John, a catechist in Nyarombo Parish in Musoma
Diocese, Tanzania, told the Parable of the Many Beads Threaded Onto a Single
String at a catechists’ meeting in the Luo-speaking Deanery: "We Christians are
like so many beads threaded onto a single string. All of us are valuable. We
belong together. We are interconnected. We can form a small community of
Christians who pray together, help each other, and serve others. There is a Luo
saying Many beads form one necklace. " The local Christians wrote a Luo song
based on this parable. It was used in the Small Christian Communities and spread
throughout the deanery.
