Some time ago there was a sharing in East Africa
among a group of African women and men, and each was asked to describe Heaven.
One woman said, "Heaven is a ‘sikukuu,’ (Swahili word for feast), in which
everyone is at peace with everyone else, everyone receives the choicest morsel
and there is enough food for everyone!"
We go forth with much hope to live out our lives as a "sikukuu"
with the Sudanese people learning to be in touch with the peace within that
enables us to hold diversity/pain constructively. It often requires
perseverance, strength and stamina to stay in the process long enough to begin
to reverence one another’s differences. War and alienation are no longer an
option for those committed to living out a "sikukuu."
