Everyone knows that the hour after lunch is a "holy hour" in hot, humid,
tropical East Africa. In fact the word "siesta" is well known even by the local
people – and often practiced as well. One day after lunch I was saying good-bye
to Mimi Doperak, a Maryknoll lay missioner. She whispered something in my ear.
Then when I was saying goodbye to her six-year-old son Jimmy I said to him:
"Your Mom just told me the most beautiful words in the world. Can you guess
what they are?" Jimmy said, "I bet Mom said ‘I love you.’" "No" I replied,
"She said, ‘have a nice siesta.’"
