A young man named Samuel who lived a reckless life
finally got a permanent change in his life. This conversion took a lot of people
by surprise. They did not believe Samuel’s conversion; they took it as a joke
and waited to see how it will unfold. For Samuel, it was a difficult struggle to
leave his old ways of life, to welcome Jesus in his daily life, to do good
things to others, to pray daily, etc. As time went by, he felt strongly that God
was calling him to serve as a priest. He shared this with his parish priest who
advised him to take some time for discernment. At this time, his parents were
also looking for him a teaching college since he had completed his high school a
year ago. A few months later his parents got him a teaching college in his home
district. He went through the teaching course, but still desiring deeply the
priesthood. He left college and said to himself, "If I should concentrate and
listen attentively to some of the ‘soft whispers’ within me, God will tell me
the exact thing to do about my vocation."
A year later Samuel was accepted to join the seminary for
priestly training. After eight years of formation and training, he was ordained
priest and said openly, "God’s love is boundless, even to a sinful and stubborn
person like me." Father Samuel lived a happy life as a priest and changed a lot
of hearts to Christianity.
