St. Maria
Goretti Small Christian Community SCC in Geita Diocese, Tanzania was started in
1993 with six families. Year after year more families joined until there were
30 families. If these families with their children participated in the Bible
sharing (especially on feast days) the number became too big – over 100 people.
To keep the idea of small which enables the Bible sharing to be done
easily, the animators of SCCs in Geita Diocese officially decided to form SCCs
of five to 15 families only. In May, 1997 St. Maria Goretti SCC gave a good
example by dividing into two independent SCCs. This was not easy to do because
of the closeness of the members during four years of praying together. But the
SCC members realized that having a missionary spirit means to “expand and
multiply.”
