We were celebrating the Christmas night liturgy in Tubalange in Lusaka, Zambia, on 24 December, 1993. The homily involved those present giving examples of how human dignity was elevated by God who became a little child. After the homily the priest celebrant took into his hands and raised up in front of everyone the baby most recently born into the
community: a baby girl called Tandike, a name which can be translated as "she who was desired and loved." There were about 80 people present for the celebration. The priest called the people up to the sanctuary to admire the little baby. This took about a quarter of an hour as old and young alike whispered a word or two of affection and welcome to the newly born child.
