no proverb was present because of the time.
Agenda
1) APWG progressive report update by executive members
2) Registration of new Members
3) Follow-up of old members
4) Visit to Cephas family in Mombasa
5) Sustainability of APWG activities
1. Visit to Cephas
Cephas is one of the longest members of the African Proverbs Group (APWG) and one of Rev.
Joseph G. Healey M.M best friends, and some of the group’s structures were initiated by him.
Cephas has been feeling unwell since 2019. His eyes had some issues and he had been ordered
by his doctor to keep his eyes far from light. He couldn’t use his gadgets including mobile
phones, laptops, he was even stopped not to watch television. This followed after he resigned
from his teaching job at Kenyatta University Department of Art and Design, and relocate from
Nairobi County to Mombasa County.
Members were planning to visit him on October 2022 together with their moderator Rev. Joseph
G. Healey M.M unfortunately Rev. Healey is on safari to USA and the date was not convenient
to him and this led to the trip halt. Members agreed to wait for Rev. Healey when is back in the
country and then they can visit Cephas together with him as a complete team.
2. APWG Accounts
The African Proverbs Working Group has two accounts which including dollar & Kenyan
shilling Bank account & a pre-paid card. There is a website, Facebook Page and WhatsApp
Group among others. Members were requesting to Rev. Joseph G. Healey to introduce them to
the people who are running these accounts so they can be able to interact directly with them for
easier networking.
3. Payment for service rendered
Members suggested if they could be motivated after editing services of booklets of proverbs of
the month, doing translations. However, it was reported that there were no finances incurred
except what Joe Healey credited after his holiday. Therefore, members were informed to reduce
or sacrifice themselves in order to ensure the projects operations remains active. Hence members
were requested to use their goodwill for the betterment of the groups growth and not to rely fully
on the projects. Since the project supply is outdone by the expenditures which should be cutting
down to reflect the finance.
4. Sustainability of the group.
For the sustainability of the group, members agreed to encourage registration of kshs 1,000 every
year, invite new members to the APWG, requested Rev. Healey to talk to our benefactors to
reintroduce the research work with a minimum payment of at least $450 per projects of a
collection of 100 proverbs instead of $500. This will bring motivation and confidence to the
group. The team agreed to revive the plan of an ambition to attract prominent people who would
like to sponsor the group’s activities.
5. AOB
Members appreciated the simple meal provided for them and thanked the APWG chair for the
initiative, as they requested for another meeting once the chair comes back from her holiday.
Members were concerned about the APWG website that seems not to be operating, and agreed
when Joe Healey comes back they will request him to introduce them to Brian Mogambi who is
responsible from Tangaza College.
Members also agreed on making a follow up of Ms. Margret Wambere & Gabriel Onyango who
were former active members.
Adjournment
Members agreed to meet when Grace is back from her holiday to plan for the November culture
ambition. Elias closed the meeting with a word of prayer in a DRC language.
The meeting ended at 3 :18 pm.
