I live in the Star of the Sea Guest House in Mombasa, Kenya. The administrator
is Maryknoll Brother Frank TenHoopen. The guest house is mainly for priests. On
Christmas Eve in 1996, however, a Rwandan refugee mother and her five children
rang the doorbell. She told TenHoopen that someone had given her his name and
said: "Brother Frank will not turn you away." TenHoopen indeed thought of
refusing hospitality because the accommodations are not ideal for families with
children. But when he talked it over with the staff, one member named Kenga who
is a Muslim said: "Let’s welcome them; that is what the Bible says we
should do."
