============================================================

I was bicycling from our village in Garissa, Kenya, to deliver medical supplies
to a village three miles away.  Since I had not secured the box too well, I had
to stop every time it fell off.  At a manayatta, or homestead, where a
group of herders lived, a woman named Halima saw my predicament.  She tore a
strip two inches wide from her own clothing and used it to
help me tie the box onto the bike.  As I reached my destination safely and with
the supplies intact, I gave thanks for Halima’s compassion and practical
know-how.
