============================================================

An elderly aunt of mine
recently died
at the age of 87

“Ah,” my Kenyan friend commented,
“She is now your ancestor”

Dying
in Africa
is not a radical break
from life

It is a continuation
of that mysterious life force

It is a linkage
with descendants
and community

“She will now
have more influence
on you and your community,”
she continued

The memories of my aunt
flood my thoughts
with happiness and peace.
