Josephine and David were a newly married couple
expecting their first child and living in Nyayo Estate in Nairobi, Kenya. They
encountered a very difficult moment on 24 December when Josephine’s delivery
time approached. The neighbors were all busy– some preparing for the Great
Christmas Feast and others campaigning before the forthcoming General Election.
Josephine was hopeful when they arrived in the nearest Maternity Hospital, but
she found that there was nobody to attend her as the nurses and doctors were on
strike. The watchman would not cooperate as he wanted them to give a bribe in
order to allow them in. As they did not have any extra money they were sent away
On their way back home they met a "street family" (a
homeless couple with children) resting on the sidewalk. They sympathized with
the young expectant mother and helped her to deliver. Josephine gave birth to a
healthy baby boy whom they named Samuel. The newborn baby was given gifts from
the street children that included "glue". Josephine and David appreciated very
much the help offered by the so-called "street family."
If Josephine was expecting the Saviour of the world, do
you think she could have been treated any better?
